The Parliament of Pop is a joint project of the Cultural Creators Friendship Group (CCFG) and Popkomm. In preparation for the Parliament of Pop, we are seeking music makers and contributors from the music industry who would like to speak on music industry or general social issues.
The Parliament of Pop is convening for the first time in the centre of political Europe, bringing together those involved in pop and politics. It allows individuals who typically have their own audiences to communicate directly with each other. Live and digital on Monday, 8th April 2024, from 14:00 to 18:00 in a conference room of the European Parliament in Brussels.
Pop Loves Democracy
Pop and democracy complement each other. Pop culture is an iconic art form for democratic societies. It is freedom of opinion that enables and favors the creative scope for pop culture, and not just in the form of love or protest songs. Democratic societies also foster the exchange of opinions.
According to the slogan “Pop Loves Democracy”, the Parliament of Pop enables a direct dialogue between politics and pop culture, facilitating a debate on the political stage in the European Parliament about social engagement, and the needs and interests of those who feel connected to pop culture or are interested in it.
About CCFG and Popkomm
The Cultural Creators Friendship Group (CCFG) is a cross-partisan and supranational coalition in the European Parliament (EP), consisting of currently 28 members from 6 different political groups and 14 different countries. We aim to improve the whole European cultural ecosystem with a focus on the Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS) – and especially on the situation and conditions of creators of cultural works, e.g., authors, performers, and artists.
Popkomm was first held as a trade fair at the Zakk in Düsseldorf in 1989, moved to Cologne the following year, and then took place in Berlin from 2004 to 2008. The premier edition of the Parliament of Pop went on at Popkomm in 2021. Designed as a travelling event, it since then took place as part of the conference programme of music conventions such Eurosonic Noorderslag (NL), Reeperbahn Festival (DE), West Way Lab (PT) and Popkomm (DE).
